Active Directory Expansion

Project Overview:

Create a framework for departments and schools to join workstations to the UCMerced Active Directory domain to leverage existing investment in the system.

Key Stakeholders:

Department heads.

Departmental technical staff.

Benefits:

Reduced login complexity (local account password vs. UCMNetID password).

Easier access to AD enabled services (file and print).

Distributed group management to control access to file/print resources.

Project Deliverables:

- Website documenting benefits to end users (and units)

- Internal documentation for migrating standalone workstations and user profiles to domain joined machines

- Internal documentation for supporting domain joined workstations vs stand alone

- Process for creation and delegation of OU or Subdomain

- Documentation for technical delegate on managing OU resources (groups, computers, policy, etc)

- Identification of groups of users for pilot implementation

- Definition of AD roles and responsibilities (IT Admins, IT Techs, OU Admins, etc)
