Introduction

This is documentation covers how to configure Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) to work with the UCMerced wireless network.

Configure Wireless

  1. Once logged in, right-click the wireless applet in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Navigate to and click "New Connection..."->"eth1". Note: eth1 might not be the name of your wireless adapter. Other common names are wlan0 and ath0.
    Create a new connection for your wireless adapter using the wireless applet.
  2. A configuration dialog will appear, listing the available wireless networks. Select the "UCMerced" network and click "Next".

  3. Fill in deatails about the UCMerced wireless network to match the image below. Enter your UCMNetID in the "Identity" field and your password in the "Password" field. Then click "Next".
    Network settings for UCMerced network are Wireless Security: Dynamic WEP (802.1x), Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP), CA Certificate: None, PEAP Version: 0, Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2, Username: your UCMNetID, Password: the password for you UCMNetID.
  4. Make sure the "Use manual IP configuration" checkbox is not checked. Click "Next".

  5. Leave the connection name as "UCMerced" and make sure the "Autoconnect" checkbox is checked. Then click "Connect and Save".

Your computer should now be connected to the UCMerced wireless network.
