Connecting to UC Merced's Wireless Access on Mac OS X

Setting Up Wireless

This document is for Mac OS X pre-Leopard.

  1. Open up Internet Connect from the Airport icon in the menu bar.
  2. Go to File and click on 'New 802.1x Connection...'
  3. Under 'Configuration', select 'Edit Configurations...'
  4. Enter the following information:
    Description: UCMerced
    Network Port: Airport
    User Name: Your UCMNetID username
    Password: Your UCMNetID password
    Wireless Network: UCMerced
    Make sure that only 'PEAP' is checked. Press 'OK'.
  5. Press 'Connect'.
  6. When the 'Verify Certificate' window pops up, press 'Show Certificate'.
  7. Check the box for 'Always trust the certificates'. If asked for your user name and password, please enter the ones you use for your computer.
  8. Each time you turn on your computer, you will need to open Internet Connect and press the 'Connect' button.. To make this easier, click and hold down on the Internet Connect icon in the dock and select 'Keep in Dock'.
