Connecting to UC Merced's Wireless Access on Mac OS X

Introduction

Before you start configuring for your wireless for the UCMerced network, please make sure that your UCMerced account is current.

Make sure you are using MAC OS X 10.5.x or higher (Leopard.) To check your OS version, click > About this Mac. If you are running OS X 10.4.x or earlier, please update your OS version; click > Software Update. If you are running OS X 10.4.11 or lower, please refer to our document Wireless Configuration for MAC OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

Configuration

The Airport status icon should be located on the top right hand corner of the menu bar . If it is not there, click > System Preferences > Network > Airport (on the left hand column) > check Show Airport status in menu bar.

Configuring Wireless Connection

  1. Click on the Wireless Network Icon on the Menu Bar
  2. From the menu select "Join Other Network"
  3. In the pop-up enter the Network Name: UCMerced
  4. From the Security List, Select 802.1x WEP
  5. Enter Your UCM Net Id (ex: jdoe) in the User Name Field followed your UCM Net ID Password. Also, make sure that 802.1X is set to "Automatic".
  6. Click "Join" to connect to the UC Merced Wireless Network.
  7. If prompted by "802.1x Authentication Certificate" click "Show Certificate"
  8. Check "Always trust radsrv.ucmerced.edu" and Click continue. Enter the Login Information for you Mac.
  9. You should now be connected to UCMerced Wireless Connection.
