Connecting to UC Merced's Wireless Access on Windows XP

Setting Up Wireless

  1. Click on Start->Control Panel
  2. If your control panel is in Classic View Skip to Step 6.
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
  4. Click Network Connections.
  5. Skip to Step 7.
  6. Click Network Connections.
  7. Right click on your wireless connection and choose properties.
  8. Click on the Wireless Networks tab.
  9. Click View Wireless Networks
  10. Click on the UCMerced network.
  11. Click Connect
  12. After a while of connecting you should get a little error message in the bottom of your taskbar.
  13. Click on Change Advanced Settings.
  14. Click on the Wireless Networks Tab
  15. Under Preferred Networks click on UCMerced
  16. Click Properties
  17. Click the Authentication tab.
  18. Check the box that says "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network."
  19. In the "EAP type:" choose "Protected EAP(PEAP)"
  20. Uncheck the box that says "Authenticate as computer when computer information is available"
  21. Click "Properties"
  22. Uncheck the box that says "Validate server certificate"
  23. Make sure that the Authentication Method is set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
  24. Click Configure.
  25. Uncheck the box.
  26. Click OK.
  27. Click OK.
  28. Click OK.
  29. Click OK.
  30. In the lower right taskbar there will be a window that pops up like the image below. Click on it.
  31. In the "User name:" box enter in your UCM NetID
  32. In the "Password:" box enter in your password.
  33. Leave the "Logon domain:" box blank.
  34. Click OK.
  35. If your credentials are correct a window will pop up in the lower right taskbar that says you are connected.
