Introduction

This is documentation covers how to configure Xubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) to work with the UCMerced wireless network.

Configure Wireless

  1. Once logged in, click the wireless applet in the upper-right corner of your screen and select the network titled "UCMerced".

  2. A dialog will appear, asking you for information about the UCMerced network. Make sure your settings match this image, providing your UCMNetID and password for the user name and password fields. Then click Connect.
    Network settings for UCMerced network are Wireless Security: Dynamic WEP (802.1x), Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP), CA Certificate: None, PEAP Version: 0, Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2, Username: your UCMNetID, Password: the password for you UCMNetID.
  3. A dialog may warn you that a certificate authority certificate has not been chosen. Click "Ignore".
    Ignore warnings about missing certificate authorities.
  4. A dialog might ask you for a password to your keyring which is usually the password you use to log into your computer.

Your computer should now be connected to the UCMerced wireless network.
