UCMPrint Services: The UCMGlobal Print Queue

Introduction

When you print documents from a computer lab workstation, a Library loaner laptop, or configure your personal laptop to print to the UCMGlobal print queue, you can pick up your print job from any printer or multi-function device on campus that has a CatCard Reader attached.

In addition, UCMPrint now offers a color print queue for your color printing needs. Visit the UCMColor Print Queue page for details on the service and configuration. Please note: We still recommend using the UCMGlobal black & white print queue for the majority of your printing needs, as the per page cost of color printing is more expensive in order to offset the higher cost of supplies.

Service Details

Black & white printing services are available at a minimal fee to UC Merced Students, Staff, Faculty, and Visitors through a centralized print queue, called UCMGlobal. This service allows you to configure a single printer on your computer but utilize any of the CatCard Reader enabled printers around campus to retrieve your print job. The associated print fees are only intended to recover the variable cost of the paper and toner supplies, and the cost to maintain the UCMPrint server software and card reader hardware. The UCMPrint solution is provided in an attempt to align with UC Merced's Sustainability efforts.

Sustainability Information

The Pharos Uniprint product that we have selected to administer our print queue, and the swipe, choose, and release solution that we have implemented, is part of our efforts to reduce paper waste from unclaimed or lost print jobs. By only printing jobs that have been selected by the person swiping their card, we ensure that the person will be at the printer to collect their documents, and give them the opportunity to cancel any print jobs that they may no longer wish to print.
