UCMCROPS
UCMCROPS (Courses, Research, Organizations, and Projects System) is our implementation of the Sakai collaboration and learning environment.
UC Merced is pleased to be a founding member of the Sakai Educational Partners Program (SEPP). The Sakai Project is an open source collaborative learning environment application and framework under development by the core higher educational members, Indiana University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, and Stanford University. Other universities and commercial partners are simultaneously developing or adapting applications to fit in the Sakai framework. UCMCROPS is accessed by clicking on the UCMCROPS tab in myUCMerced.
UCMCROPS will provide base facilities similar to those found in existing course management systems (such as Blackboard and WebCT) in a portal environment, and will accommodate local enhancements as well as the ability to share functionality created by other institutions. Other applications, such as the Open Source Portfolio application are being re-engineered to function primarily in the Sakai framework..
Sakai is being developed in partnership with uPortal; we have built MyUCMerced on the uPortal software base, and are well positioned for smoothly integrating Sakai and related applications into our portal. Configuration and deployment of Sakai at UC Merced is being done with the guidance of the faculty-led Interim Planning Committee for Instructional Technology and Support (IPCITS).
