The Data Security Assurance Consultation for Research Data addresses the information security requirements for any internal or external research project where UC Merced faculty, staff, and students participate. This consultation service includes guidance and education about compliance with UC-wide the Information Security (IS-3) policy and other relevant regulations and laws provided by the information security and research computing teams. Once completed, user can expect to gain a knowledge of the data security requirements associated with their research, a plan for implementing the requirements (including service and support options for data storage and management solutions), as well as relevant letters for compliance, support for grant proposals, and research contracts.
Any active faculty, staff and graduate student with an active UCMNetID account with a need to access, store, process, transfer sensitive data can submit a request . Prior to consultations, users will be required to complete a request for information form with as details as possible.
The service is a consultation based on user-provided information security requirements, data protection requirements, and guidance against relevant UC policies, regulations, and laws according to the protection levels and types of data. The consultation is required before any signed document and/or protocol approval is provided by the campus Chief Information Security Officer.
Support for this service is provided during standard operating hours: 8:00 a.m.-5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.
Users will be provided with the Data Security Assurance questionnaire immediately upon submission of the request. An initial consultation will be scheduled upon receipt of the intake questionnaire (usually within one to three business days depending on availability).
There is no cost for this service.
