What is Kaltura?
Kaltura is a cloud-based video management system that stores, hosts and distributes videos. Kaltura will be available through CatCourses for faculty to host videos for instructional use by students. It will allow faculty and students to easily view, record, manage, edit, transcode and deliver high-quality video that is visible on any device, at any time. The video is a proven way to increase engagement and creativity, foster a sense of community, and improve learning outcomes.
How can I access Kaltura?
All UC Merced instructors have access to Kaltura through CatCourses
Who can access my Kaltura videos?
Videos are available for those in a course using CatCourses with Kaltura turned on. Only you and your students who are signed up for your course will be able to view the videos.
After a pilot program in fall 2016 that spanned all three schools at UC Merced, Kaltura was chosen as the vendor of choice for this service. It meets OIT’s objectives in providing a cloud-based service that bridges technology resources to support teaching and learning.
Who can help me digitize my media for Kaltura?
The library can work with faculty on digitizing course materials. Request digitization of materials to be uploaded to Kaltura here. Submit requests as far in advance as possible. The Library processes items in the order in which they are received. Requests are limited to 25 items per course.
