Annual Report

In early 2020, with the COVID-19 crisis emerging and demand for technological solutions and support skyrocketing, the Office of Information Technology decided not to prepare a traditional 2019 annual report. Instead, we offer the brief notes for 2019 below. While this approach is certainly less flashy than previous years, we hope you'll agree that this summary—and particularly the results from our Administrative Review and our Leadership Council presentation—are quite useful in documenting OIT's progress as an organization over the course of the year.


2019 

2019 was a year of growth and maturation for the Office of Information Technology.

We provided general support and services for all campus users and more than 250 classrooms, conference rooms, computer labs, and meeting spaces (including more than 40 new spaces brought online by the second delivery of the UC Merced 2020 Project). We planned and executed a number of campus-wide projects. We closed 17,322 service requests and responded to 8,619 incidents (including 11 major campus incidents). We planned and executed 109 changes to the OIT UC Merced technology environment. We also: 

 

Completed the Next Generation Network project,
including a complete hardware refresh and redesign
of four campus voice and data networks 
Completed Phase 1 of the Student Information System upgrade (Banner 9) Rolled out a consolidated campus printing service

Completed the design and analysis of our
Enterprise Applications roadmap

Launched MuleSoft integration platform as part of our Next Generation API solution Migrated course evaluations to Class Climate
Launched the cross-campus enrollment system Migrated our identity and access management (IAM) architecture to a cloud-based service Delivered a new faculty website service
completed a refresh of the OIT website Extended our digitized workflow and forms offerings supported with Hyland OnBase Finalized Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
offering to campus
Completed major Oracle 12c upgrade, Cognos Reporting upgrade, and integration/configuration of Tableau with UCOP Tableau Migrated our Hyland OnBase digital forms
in line with our Single Sign-On protocols
Migrated UC Merced VPN services from end of life hardware Cisco to Palo Alto Networks Global Protect (GP) solution 

Undertook a comprehensive listening tour with 20 constituent
groups representing our major campus stakeholders and partners to complete the Administrative Review Implementation Plan

Launched Respondus 4.0 and Respondus LockDown Browser Began a comprehensive self-phishing campaign to raise awareness about phishing techniques

 

OIT also underwent an extensive Administrative Review during 2019; the listening tour noted above was our first step towards crafting our response to the findings of that review. In December 2019, we presented our listening tour findings and plan for next steps to the UC Merced Leadership Council. 

It's important to note that we also expanded our teams with some fantastic new hires during 2019, too!
