IT Communications & User Experience

Job Description:

In this position, students will build professional communication and marketing skills as they work to support OIT education initiatives and campaigns. This will often require writing or editing promotional or informational copy, creating graphics and videos, and developing content for OIT's social media and communication channels. Our group also supports UC Merced Connect and user experience efforts, which will give students a chance to build data collection, user testing, and analysis skills.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Strong creative skills and the intellectual curiosity to develop new content, pitch ideas, and learn things you don't know.

  • Comfortable with working on multiple projects simultaneously,.

Research Computing

Job Description: This position is a primarily researcher-facing role that involves an understanding of computational research and computer programming. With direction from the Cyberinfrastructure and Research Technology (CIRT) team, the student research facilitator will keep the CIRT website up-to-date, assist with maintenance, and create internal and external documentation for CIRT processes.

Qualifications:

  • Basic proficiency in facets of web design and development.

  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose issues.

  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a diverse set of clients, including faculty, staff, students, and the UC Merced community.

Network

Job Description:

Assist with fine-tuning campus network management systems (SolarWinds/Airwave/Cat-Tools to include Move/add/changes. Maintain and organize Inventory documentation for surplus and new equipment in our existing sheds. Audit and document wireless access points, network switches and routers, power and distribution equipment, and apply and confirm & document OS code versions.  

Qualifications:

  • Experience or desire and capability to learn LINUX and Macintosh OS X operating systems and or software development or coding. 

  • Ability to learn new & use new concepts, devices, and software products quickly. 

  • Demonstrated ability to be a leader and self-manage time and workload, and be proactive in taking initiative on tasks and projects.
