Alert: Atlassian Account Claim

January 28, 2022

What's Happening?

The UC Merced Office of Information Technology (OIT) uses Atlassian-owned services BitBucket, Jira, and Confluence for several business-related purposes. In the coming weeks, we will integrate the UC Merced Single Sign On to our instances of these platforms to enhance internal security. As part of this process, Atlassian requires that we "claim" all accounts that use a login with a @ucmerced.edu email address.

OIT plans to claim all Atlassian accounts associated with ucmerced.edu email addresses on 03/10/2022 and to require UC Merced Single Sign On for those accounts on 03/25/2022.

OIT is aware that there are potentially more than 1,000 Atlassian accounts associated with ucmerced.edu email addresses that would be considered 'personal use' accounts for Atlassian products, including Jira, Confluence, BitBucket, and the popular productivity/project management platform Trello. Unless you take action, your personal Atlassian account could be 'claimed' as part of the OIT action described above.

Please Note:

1. The 'claim' process does not allow OIT access to any data associated with personal accounts that use ucmerced.edu email addresses as the login.

2. When we 'claim' all accounts, it will not impact your ability to access your Trello, Confluence, Jira, or BitBucket account, but you will be required to use your UC Merced credentials to log in after 3/25/2022.

3. If your Atlassian account is claimed, you cannot delete or make changes to your account without going through the OIT Service Desk.

How Does This Affect Me?

Your action depends on your affiliation with UC Merced and how you use your Atlassian accounts. Find the statement below that best describes you to find our recommendations for what to do next.
