How do I access Teams on the web?

Click the Teams web client or go to http://www.office.com and login user your UCMNetID and password.

What browsers are supported for the Microsoft Teams web client?

Go to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/get-clients to view what browsers are supported. Current browsers fully supported: Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based), the latest version plus two previous versions; Google Chrome, the latest version plus two previous versions; Microsoft Edge, RS2 or later (except no outgoing sharing).

How can I join a meeting on an unsupported web browser?

I don’t have Teams installed, can I still join a meeting?

Yes, you can join a Teams meeting anytime, from any device, whether or not you have a Teams account. To do this, go to the meeting invite and select Join Microsoft Teams Meeting and follow the steps to join. You may also dial-in and join the meeting with the Conference ID.

Can I create a Team from an existing Office 365 Group?

Yes, the Office 365 group owner can create a "team" from an existing Office 365 group. When doing so, you will automatically share the same group privacy (public or private) and members as the original group.  Click here to learn how to Create a Team from an existing group.

Can I import calendar data from my non-UC Merced calendar (shared account, regular mailbox, public folders) to a Team calendar?

You cannot import data from a non-UC Merced calendar.  Note that your Outlook Calendar will automatically import into your Team's Calendar.

Can I add members to my Team that are outside of UC Merced?

Yes, if you are the team owner, you can invite Guests from outside your organization to your team.  Click here to learn how to add guests to a team in Teams.

How is sensitive data protected?

All data is encrypted in transit and any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is monitored and managed per UC Merced's data governance policy.  Click here for more information on what kind of information protection Teams offers.

Can I change my microphone and video to be Off by default?

No, by default the microphone and video are on.  Teams does allow you to turn off your microphone and video before a meeting and during the meeting.  If the meeting room (or another device that's connected to the meeting) is nearby, choose Audio off to avoid disrupting. Select Phone audio if you want to listen to the meeting on your mobile phone.

I'm switching from Skype for Business to Teams. What do I need to know?

Can I import Skype for Business contacts into Teams?

No. You can add you contacts manually by going to Chat, make sure you are on the Contacts tab, and select More Options ..., and select Add a contact to this group.

Can I delete a chat?

No, chat deletion has been disabled.

Can I edit a message?

Yes.  You can edit any message that you have sent to a chat or channel. Go to the message and select More Options ... > Edit.  Make changes to your message, then press Enter to save the update.

Can I remove someone from a group a chat?

Currently, there's no way to remove someone else from a group chat. They can leave the chat (so you could ask them to do that).  You can always start a new conversation with a different group of people.

What is the maximum amount of people I can add in a group chat?

100

Can I add my own backgrounds?

No. Microsoft is currently working on this.

Can Teams call my phone rather than join the meeting using my computer audio?

No

Can I merge two Microsoft Teams?

No.

Does my Team expire if I don't use it?

A Team expires after 12 months of no activity. A team owner will receive a notification for team renewal 30 days, before the team's expiration date. If the team owner does not renew the team, the team is put in a "soft-deleted" state, which means it can be restored within the next 30 days.

What if I accidentally delete my team?

Contact the OIT Service Desk at (209) 228-4357 to get your Team restored.  Everything gets restored except Shifts (Microsoft is working on making it recoverable). Note: You have 30 days to recover your team!

Can I change my Teams email address?

Email addresses are automatically created by Microsoft and cannot be modified after created.

How do I logout of Microsoft Teams?

To log out of Microsoft Teams, click on your profile picture on the upper right-hand corner of the app, then select Sign Out.
